Cosama Ferry from Dakar to Ziguinchor...

Abdoul Aziz and I began our voyage on the 5th of November. We waited forever for the boat to start again. It was stopped for 7 months because of the Corona Virus. Normally three boats are used but they have only restarted the smallest of their boats for now. So, no sleepers, no beds, just some comfortable seats.

But no seat is comfortable after several hours. I can't sleep sitting up, so I took several pieces of my clothing and made a bed here:

People were charging their phones inches from my head all night. But somehow I slept for 10 hours, lol. I don't understand it, but I was really happy. I arrived rested and ready to explore this new place.
There was a place outside that people gathered and a third of the passengers slept out here:
After 15 hours we arrived in Casamance, Senegal! We grabbed some spaghetti sandwiches and drove our moto (we brought it with us) to Cap Skirring.

Abdoul Aziz was born and raised here and was reunited with his mother, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends after being gone for over two years. It was a beautiful family gathering, and it was a surprise because he did not call ahead. We were in our new place for work and we could stay with his family, but it was already very crowded and we decided that we would look for another place to stay, closer to the orphanage and also not to impose on Aziz's family for a long time.
More on that in the next post.
